A Divided Bar Graph is a special type of bar graph, and it is characterised by:
- a rectangle or bar is divided into smaller rectangles or sections
- the length of each rectangle or bar is proportionate to the value of data it represents, i.e what fraction of the whole rectangle
- the value of the data in each section is found by measuring the length of the section and comparing it to the length of the whole rectangle
- sometimes a scale may be given
- no axes are necessary
Sometimes multiple columns and stacked columns can be used to compare several data sets together directly.
Divided bar graphs are best used to show information that is expressed as fractions or a percentage of whole.
