Introduction to Pre-Calculus

Pre-Calculus is the stepping stone to Calculus. Pre-calculus prepares you with basic concepts about functions and curves, gradients of curves, and the limits of a given function at a point.

It helps you understand the rate of change of a function in small intervals of change. We also learn about the continuity of a function in a given domain, and the nature of this function.

We’ll also look at patterns and sequences of numbers; and find the general rule/formula for these sequences, and their general applications in real life.

These sequences are of two types – arithmetic and geometric.

Geometric series are applied in calculating loan repayments, retirement savings, and in general for calculating compound interest in the financial sectors.

We now look at a few topics in pre-calculus:

What are functions

What is domain and range

Characteristics of functions
