# Examples of salary calculations

Here are further examples of salary calculations :

Example 1 : John works in an accounting firm on an annual salary of \$45,500. If John is paid each fortnight, how much is he paid?

There are 26 fortnights in a year.

So John’s fortnightly salary is  =  455,500  ÷  26  =  \$1,750

Example 2 : What is the weekly pay of a clerk on an annual salary of \$36,000 (to the nearest cent)

There are 52 weeks in a year.

So the weekly salary of the clerk  =  36,000  ÷  52  =  \$692.31

Example 3 : Kelly is an engineer earning \$ 56,000 per annum. What is her monthly salary?

Since there are 12 months in a year, Kelly’s monthly salary

=   56,000  ÷  12  =  \$4,666.67

Example 4 :  Joan receives a weekly pay of \$ 737.75. What is her annual salary?

To calculate the annual salary, we multiply the weekly (or fortnightly) salary by 52 (or 26) respectively.

Joan’s annual salary  =  \$737.75  x  52  =  \$38,363

Example 5 : Charles earns \$47,350 per annum. How much does he earn weekly, fortnightly and monthly.

a) Weekly – Charles’ weekly salary  =  annual salary  ÷  52

=  47,350  ÷  52

=  \$910.58

b) Fortnightly – Charles’ fortnightly salary  =  annual salary  ÷  26

=  47,350  ÷  26

=  \$1821.15

c) Monthly – Charles’ monthly salary  =  annual salary  ÷  12

=  47,350  ÷  12

=  \$3945.83
